The American Royal Returns

Last weekend the American Royal World Series of Barbeque returned to the Kansas Speedway after a year’s hiatus. While there were concerns that canceling last year’s event would lead to a decline in attendance this year, nearly 500 teams registered to compete at this years’ invitational and open BBQ competitions.

The FireBoard team also returned to the American Royal this year and partnered with Burnt Finger BBQ for the fourth year. Jason and Megan Day are the pitmasters behind Burnt Finger BBQ. You may have seen the dynamic duo promoting barbecue on local and national television, including appearances on Fox & Friends, CNN, TODAY Show, Food Network, Cooking Channel, and many more.

We had a record turnout to our booth with over 200 bbq-lovers attending our Friday night gathering. Throughout Saturday and Sunday we continued to see and meet with many familiar faces in the BBQ community.

We met with Harry Soo of Slap Yo’ Daddy BBQ. You may have seen Harry Soo and SYD on Season One of TLC’s BBQ Pitmasters where SYD claimed first place. SYD is known for their award winning recipes like the “First Place Judges Choice Kiwanis Chili Cookoff” or “Pork Belly Pig Candy“.

We also met with Andy Groneman of Smoke On Wheels Award Winning BBQ fame. For 20 years, Andy has been producing products for outdoor cooking and BBQ as well as teaching BBQ 101 classes to students across the globe.
