New Year, New Mobile App Upgrades
Happy December, everyone! We hope your Thanksgiving went well, and that your leftovers carry you to Christmas! Today we’re going to walk you through some of the big changes we’ve recently made to the FireBoard mobile app – some long-requested, some new entirely. We want to ensure our users have a full grasp of the app’s new capabilities, even if that means you just want to change your channels to red and green for the holidays. No judgment here – we’re the ones who allowed you to do it! Let’s dig in.
Session View Updates
Starting with the Session View, you are now able to select a Pulse device for Drive fan control directly from the dashboard. Simply tap on the Control Channel section in the Drive widget area to open a selector screen that displays available devices, pictured below.
You might also notice the graph colors are different than usual – more on that later.
We’ve received feedback from our users requesting more flexibility and easier access to certain features, specifically regarding the Pulse. These updates aim to provide that flexibility directly from the Session View dashboard, saving time otherwise spent navigating additional menus.
New Drive Program Channel Controls
We’ve also added similar functionality in our Drive Program setup views to allow you to specify a Pulse channel for a given step. For example, say you only want to move on from Step 1 to Step 2 once your Pulse’s internal temp reaches 204°F. Then, you want to move from Step 2 to Step 3 only when the Pulse’s external temp reaches a certain threshold.
This new feature allows you that kind of control over your programs, opening the door for some really complex and really cool cooks – we’re excited to see what you guys do with it.
If you’re new to Drive Programs, check out our Knowledge Base page about how to set up Drive Programs. It includes video tutorials to help walk you through it. If you’ve had a FireBoard for a while and still haven’t used one of these yet, we highly recommend it. These programs allow you to perfect cooks over time by setting predetermined steps that automatically trigger based on temperature thresholds you define. In the end, it means you can throw the meat on, enable the program, and only come back once the app tells you it’s done.
Meet the New Summary View
This view, previously known as Detail View (or Matrix View, for those who have been around for a while), provides a general summary of all connected devices and their statuses – current temperature readings, miniature graph, device battery life & connectivity method, etc. Most things you would want to see at a glance are all here in one place.
A recent addition is the toggle switch next to the device’s current temperature reading, pictured below next to the example Pulse’s Internal and External channels. By toggling these on or off, data from those channels will disappear/reappear on the Session View, allowing you to get better visibility into the channels you care about while hiding ones that may not be as important.
Addressing the readability of data has long been an item on our agenda, both due to user feedback as well as for our internal testing purposes. For both of these reasons, we have been very excited to release this update to the public.
Saving the Best for Last: Custom Colors!
Have you ever wanted to change your graph colors for better visibility? What about just for fun? In either case, you now have the ability to do this! While in Summary View, tap the current temperature of the channel whose color you’d like to edit. You’ll be brought to a screen showing you several options, like changing the name of the channel and setting up alerts/notifications.
There will now also be a Color field – simply tap the colored circle to open the palette where you can select your preferred color from a set list. These changes will be reflected in both Summary and Session views, and can always be changed.
We’re excited to see how people make use of these new features as we continue working on updates for both iOS and Android versions. If you have any suggestions for new app features, feel free to shoot us an email at info@fireboard.com with “App Suggestion” in the subject line. BUT, before you do that, be sure to check out the Knowledge Base pages about the app just in case the feature you want to be added might already be there.
