FireBoard at 2022 Scheels’ Academy
Me ready to present
What does one do when the boss (Ted) asks you to take a road trip to Fargo, ND to be a Brand Ambassador at the annual Scheels BBQ, Hunting and Shooting Academy? And what does one do if it happens to be your 33rd Wedding Anniversary weekend? Well, one (that’s me) invites the wife (Dean) for a road trip (which we love!) to Fargo, corporate headquarters of Scheels! We loaded up Ted’s pickup with FireBoard product and some presentation equipment and made the 9 hour trek directly north.

The presentation day started with the Scheels Associates teaming up with nationally known BBQ Chefs in a friendly BBQ competition! Brisket was on the menu. That means an early start for a long day in the smoker! So, 6:00AM came early for most, but, they learned from the best, including Megan Day from FireBoard sponsored team Burnt Finger BBQ.
Megan Day of Burnt finger was one of the pit bosses selected to compete at Scheels 2022 BBQ University.
The teams developed a cook plan, trimmed the meat, started up the smokers to let the smoke do it’s job!

The day concluded with the BBQ Teams reconvening to learn about preparing the championship BBQ boxes for judging. All teams made the turn-in time and the scoring was left for the judges. At the end of the day, Megan Day’s Team won 3rd place!

My name is Devin Beni I am the hunting manager in The Des Moines Scheels, I was one of the lucky ones to get selected to go to BBQ university. I wanted to say thank you for your time inside and outside of the classroom up in Fargo. I learned a lot about the FireBoard while up there. I took that knowledge gained and put it towards my personal use and for teaching at scheels not only to customers but to the other staff. Thank you again for the FireBoard 2, I am love it and use it way too much now!
