Scheels BBQ and Hunting Event Knocks It Out of The Park

A couple weeks ago, I joined about a dozen other vendors up in Fargo, North Dakota for Scheels’ annual training event for their BBQ and Hunting lines.  As one of FireBoard’s key dealers, Scheels has been selling our full line of thermometers and accessories for several years.  (Check out all of our dealers on our dealer locator here).

Kicking off the speed training

Scheels makes a massive investment in training their associates so they are knowledgeable about the products they sell.  In a modern retail climate of cost cutting, this is a refreshing change and allows customers to have meaningful conversations with Scheels staff about their potential purchases.  It’s a truly impressive investment and we are honored to attend the training event each year.

This year, Scheels added a BBQ competition and brought in 16 noteworthy pitmasters to lead each team comprised of Scheels associate.  An amazing complement to the training event, this provided hands on learning as well as a fun opportunity to interact with some amazing leaders in the BBQ world.

One of the pitmasters at the BBQ event was Megan Day with Burnt Finger BBQ.  Megan was also gracious enough to help me with the training before the BBQ and she was a huge help!  Capping off the event was a major win by Megan and Burnt Finger on the People’s Choice Award with her amazing burnt ends.

If you live near a Scheels, I would encourage you to keep them in mind when you have sporting goods, hunting or BBQ purchases.  They run a truly quality organization and we are thankful for our partnership with them.
