Countdown Timer added to the Spark!
FireBoard has an exciting announcement today, given the timing it comes as a Christmas present to owners of the feature rich Spark. The latest firmware version 1.4.4 adds a countdown timer! This feature allows you to set a countdown timer in preset intervals; one to sixty minutes. When time is up the Spark’s led flashes white and a notification will pop up on your phone, tablet or watch.
How to Get Firmware 1.4.4
For the Spark any new firmware update requires a WiFi connection. So first and foremost make sure you are within WiFi range, then for good measure, plug in the charging cable. At this point the Spark will update itself at power-up, it is pretty quick.
Once updated you will see the “Timer” main menu option. You can set the timer with a button push here, or (insert drum roll) by giving the Spark a little shake. This action is picked up by the accelerometer as a cue to start the “Timer?” screen. Once at this screen, pushing the button will allow you to select the time.

Love the spark. Switched from Thermoworks thermapen, signals, and blower to all fireboard products. Now with my Lone Star Grillz pellet grill all my cooks are on one platform and transitioning from the pellet grill to my standalone fireboard allows me to see everything from startup through resting in the oven! I love using the fireboard and drive fan on my Weber kamado and soon I’ll be using it on my drum smoker. The platform can’t be beat!

I wasn’t too sure about the spark but after using it, it was a great investment. It’s great for small cooks and even better with a timer! Thank you so much!!!

This is a super cool feature to add and it’s amazing that you guys continually upgrade and add features via firmware instead of holding them for a future version 2!
Can the timer also be used while using either the built in probe or the external probe?
A nice additional feature for SCA use might be setting the timer via the app(allowing seconds and more granular time control) after the timer is expired, shake to restart the timer, this would be handy for timing the sear on the steak.
Thanks again for constantly innovating!

Thanks Chris, glad you like it! Yep, we are considering different options that will enable setting a time other than the presets.
